Deadpool simply smashed box office records for R-rated motion pictures, taking in more than $150 million in its domestic opening weekend. That’s big cash for a movie budgeted at simply $58 million (small potatoes by superhero requirements) and indicates Deadpool 2 is basically a dead certainty now. So, when the Merc with a Mouth does roll back onto our screens, this is who we need to see him up against:
Let’s just get the apparent one out of the way now. Deadpool and Cable have actually been a typical pairing ever since their massive 50-issue Cable & Deadpool run in the ’00s. Now Cable’s backstory is a little complex (he’s the time-travelling alternate timeline son of Cyclops and a clone of Jean Grey, implanted with a technovirus) however we have a feeling these guys can make it all work.
2. Bob, Agent of Hydra
Comics fans will all know Bob, the unlucky Hydra agent who ends up being Deadpool’s sometime-sidekick. The first film provided us a glimpse of Bob in its last battle scene (but perhaps you didn’t catch who he was), and completely left him alive, so we’re anticipating lots more Bob to come. Sure, he most likely can’t originate from Hydra, given that Fox don’t have the rights, however we’ll make do.
The fast-talking speedster was a highlight of X-Men: Days of Future Past, and is coming back for this summer season’s Apocalypse, but for our cash he ‘d be perfect as a foil for Wade Wilson. There’s no other way in hell they ‘d get on initially, but we ‘d like to see Quicksilver harming Deadpool just as rapidly as he can heal himself.
4. Professor X
McAvoy or Stewart– we do not mind. Even if it’s just a cameo, we wish to see what the esteemed Professor makes of the Merc with a Mouth– and vice versa. Just think of the Professor trying to check out Deadpool’s mind and recoiling in horror– inform me you would not enjoy that.
We enjoyed Morena Baccarin as Wade’s girlfriend Vanessa, but there’s an obvious path to expand on the character: expose her to be her comic equivalent, Vanessa Carlysle, a.k.a. Copycat. She’s a shapeshifter (believe Mystique from X-Men), which raises all sorts of significant possibilities because Deadpool dislikes his own appearance. Plus, it gets us more Morena Baccarin, which can just be a good thing.
